For three days, students, enthusiasts, and sound professionals are invited to participate in a co-creation workshop led by Roberto Pugliese.
The integration of sound into contemporary visual arts is the result of a historic break from the conventions of pure musical performance, which took place in the middle of the last century. Since the earliest explorations in the fields of phonology and electronic music, sound material has gradually permeated the artistic sphere through innovative performative practices and avant-garde experimentation. Music is not the only organised subset of the sound universe! The ‘sound continuum’ is rich and varied; it may or may not be associated with the visual world, in various multimedia contexts and in different ways. The course in Sound Art Systems and Technologies aims to explore, from both a historical and a technical-scientific perspective, the various opportunities that sound can offer in the artistic sphere.
The course is divided into two parts: a theoretical phase, which will cover the historical development of sound art and ‘classical’ electronic music, the fundamentals of acoustics and psychoacoustics, the basics of music computing, various audio formats, the use of audio editors, object-oriented graphical programming languages (MAX/MSP, Pure Data) in the audio field, microcontrollers and audio playback systems; and a practical phase, which will cover the design of a sound installation, the analysis of the technical resources required for the project, the realisation of the audio component of the work and optimisation for audience experience. The aim of the course is to provide participants with the basic knowledge required for the design and realisation of installations, sculptures and sound environments. To participate, you must have your own laptop (Mac/Windows) with the demo versions of the programmes (Cubase, Pure Data, Max/MSP) already installed and configured to speed up the setup process. A basic knowledge of the use of the aforementioned software and the use of microcontrollers and sensors is preferable, but not essential.

As part of the concert season celebrating the Bicentenary of the transfer to its current site and the naming of the Royal Conservatory of Music of San Pietro a Majella, napoliGROUND transforms the urban fabric into an international laboratory for sonic arts and intermedial experimentation.
The synergy between the Conservatory “San Pietro a Majella”, the Napoli Totale Elettronica collective, the Madre Museum, the Teatro Bellini, the Pietà de’ Turchini Foundation, the Opificio Puca, and L’Asilo establishes an osmotic dialogue between Higher Education institutions, contemporary art hubs, independent research circuits, and the commons.
In this network of spaces, electronic musical practice operates as a relational and collective process based on theoretical research, compositional praxis, and live performance. Sound becomes a practice of co-creation: an act of sonic citizenship that roots experimentation in the living community.
This vision spans ten days of programming across historical spaces and places of participatory democracy. From the intermedial explorations of Marginale II to the site-specific sound sculptures of Re/Compose, up to the Electroacoustic Orchestra Officina Arti Soniche (OEOAS), napoliGROUND activates permeable sonic architectures. The theoretical core is the first edition of SPaMEC 2026.
With the participation of key figures in international sound experimentation — including Manuella Blackburn, Cedrik Fermont, Jean-François Laporte, Klaus Filip, Christian Kobi, and Radu Malfatti — the project is an open construction site.
