In-Cantiamoci a Napoli! Turchini Academy

The Pietà de’ Turchini Academy aims to revive an educational practice in the field of music that, over the centuries, has produced universally recognized results, giving rise to a productive process with a strong identity and unmistakable artistic quality, generally known as the Neapolitan Musical School.

The project operates simultaneously along two main lines:

– to nurture, through instrumental and choral practice, children from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds across the region, with the goal of bringing out their vocal and musical talents, fostering inclusion and relational growth, and developing awareness of their roots and knowledge of their cultural heritage;

– to attract young talents from around the world to Naples, offering them the opportunity—through regular instrumental and vocal workshops, artistic residencies, and cultural visits focused on libraries and archives preserving still-unexplored scores—to discover the uniqueness and beauty of Naples’ musical heritage, particularly that of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Thanks to the support of the Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne, and the valuable collaboration with the 48th School of Barra/Ponticelli, the Pietà de’ Turchini launched, starting in 2019, an Academy dedicated both to the advanced training of young professionals and to the musical education of beginners. Students who demonstrate particular talent and interest in singing and music are offered the opportunity to attend individual vocal technique lessons and instrumental courses, with the possibility of being loaned a musical instrument that, upon reaching a certain level, may become the student’s permanent possession. One of the most immediate outcomes of this initiative is the involvement of families—through the children themselves—within a framework of social and territorial cohesion.
